Standort: Klaus Dold Automobile, Klaus Dolt +49 172 7608879, Europastrasse 4 D-77933 Lahr. 'The most intelligent application of minimalism ever to succeed as a car.' - L J K Setright on the Citroën 2CV. Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroën's quirky 2CV debuted in 1949. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favoured car of the environmentally concerned motorist. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew eventually to 602cc, the 2CV's performance remained relatively modest at around 110km/h flat-out, not that that concerned the majority of its devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof, and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. It was a sad day for many when the last French-built 2CV left the Levallois factory in 1988, although production continued in Portugal for two more years. Over the years there had been several 'special edition' 2CV models, one of the best known being the Charleston. Launched in October 1980 as a one-season-only model, the Charleston was so well received that it was incorporated into the regular range almost immediately. A change of carburettor boosted engine output to 29bhp, giving the Charleston a top speed of around 115km/h (71mph) while other improvements included inboard front disc brakes and a new rear-view mirror. A Charleston was the last car off the 2CV production line when Portuguese manufacture ceased in July 1990. Believed built in 1988 for the 1989 model year, this Charleston was purchased new by the famous Dutch collector, Mr Wim Zegwaard, but not first registered until 1991. The Charleston had covered a mere 166 kilometres when it was purchased in October 2012 by the current (second) owner, who has only driven the car sparingly in order to keep it in good running order. Un-restored, it remains totally original and is 'like new' in condition. Accompanying documentation includes copies of the 1991 and 1997 Netherlands registration documents; the 2012 Uitvoerverklaring (export licence); a UK V5C registration Certificate; an expired 2012 MoT certificate; and the original owner's manual, booklets, and pouch.
